How safe is your home? You might feel like it is a safe place to live, but have you actually made sure that your assumption is correct? The best way to find out is to pretend that you are a visitor in your own home. Observe anything that you might not think of yourself since you live there, but which could pose a hazard.
Say, for example, that you are walking up your walkway leading to the front door. Are there big cracks in the pavement, or are the walking stones uneven? That should be cared for.
What about your roof? Do you have loose tiles that could come off and fall down on someone near your home? Could your siding blow off in a heavy windstorm and hurt someone?
If you have stairs, are they even and in good repair, with sturdy handrails? This is very important, especially for older people.
If you make sure to check on all these items yourself first, you might prevent someone being injured when visiting you.
