House fires claim lives every year, and the best protection for you is to have a smoke alarm which can wake you up in case of fire. We have probably all been guilty at one time or another of taking the battery out of a beeping alarm just to make it stop, but this is a danger to you and your family.
A safer alternative to battery operated smoke alarms is a hard-wired system with a battery backup. This will minimize the risk of human error to interfere with the operation of the alarm.
You should make sure that you have enough smoke alarms throughout your home to make sure that all bedrooms are equipped, as well as the areas directly outside of your bedroom.
In multi-level homes, there should be at least one alarm on each floor.
If you have flammable materials stored anywhere in your home, there should be an alarm adjacent as well.
