There is a very simple way for you to get a sample ready to send into a lab for testing, and it will tell you how severe the infestation is and what type of mold it is.
The only tools you will need are scotch tape and a plastic bag.
Press the tape up firmly against an area in your home where you suspect there might be mold. After you rip it off, tape it to the inside of the plastic bag, and send it off to a lab for a test. It should not cost too much, and you will have an answer fairly quickly so that you can take the next step.
