Imagine that you have some friends over for a party, and you ask for help clearing room for everyone to sit together at the table, and one of your well-meaning friends pushes a heavy dresser over, scratching your wooden floor.
You might stare in horror, thinking that you will always have an unsightly scratch on your floor, which you will need to cover, but this is not necessarily the case. It is possible to repair scratches on wooden floors.
Start out with either 180 grit sandpaper on a deep scratch or steel wool on a shallow scratch. Once you have gotten the scratch and the immediate area around it fairly smooth, you might need to use wood filler to get the area level, after which you would need to sand again.
Once all of this is done, clean off the area well and top it off with a layer of polyurethane.
